No matter how hard I looked, I could never find another author that gave me the same feelings as Nicholas Sparks did, until I discovered Corinne Michaels a few months ago. I started reading her Whitlock Family series and right from page one of Forbidden Hearts, I was hooked. I immediately dived into book 2 of the series, Broken Dreams, and I cannot wait to read book 3, Tempting Promises, which will be released on February 22nd, 2024.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; since I absolutely loved <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44525771-a-madness-of-sunshine?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=dE2Ci2RXSR&rank=25">A
Madness of Sunshine</a>, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the book for me. It was a
very slow burn, too slow for my taste. I was having a hard time pushing
through, and it took me quite a while to finish.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">There are a lot of characters right in
the beginning so I was getting a bit confused, maybe a character map would have
helped in this case, but even with the multiple characters, I didn’t even like
any of them, so it was hard to empathize or care what was happening to them.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">The other couple things I didn’t love
was that the ending was somewhat predictable (maybe I’ve read too many mystery
novels), and I still have remaining questions.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">The redeeming factors, for me, are the
excellent writing, and the premise location. An isolated gothic mansion in the
middle of nowhere, count me in!</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Nalini is such a great writer! I will continue
to read her mystery/thriller books in the future</span></p><p>

continues to be interesting and enjoyable, I might just be getting tired of the
police procedural genre as it took me a while to read this book while I usually
devour these books in a couple of days.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">In this one, Josie is still struggling
with her past and demons, but she never lets it go in the way of the
investigation. I thought for sure this story was going to be predictable (maybe
that’s why I had a hard time getting into it) but I was 1000% wrong! This was a
twisty, unpredictable read.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">You can read these books as standalone,
but I always recommend starting at the beginning, you’ll definitely fall in love
with the characters! I'm eager to read more from Josie and the group in the future!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">

Curled tight in a tiny ball, it’s as if she wants to hide away forever. “He took her!” she cries. “He took my sister!”</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">When a desperate mother calls Denton Police Department to report her children missing, Detective Josie Quinn races to investigate. Sixteen-year-old Kayleigh and her little sister Savannah went for a walk in the woods but never came home. They are good girls and know not to go far, say their frantic parents. Kayleigh always looks after Savannah and brings her home safely. Until now…</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Even as she vows to bring the sisters home safely, Josie’s blood runs because they are not the only missing children. Rumors are spreading about the legend of “The Woodsman”: when pairs of children go into the woods, The Woodsman takes one of them and only one comes out alive. With local teenagers daring each other to walk into the woods at night in pairs, Josie knows that nobody is safe from the hysteria sweeping Denton. Little Savannah Patchett is soon mercifully found alive, alone and terrified, but she tells Josie “The Woodsman has taken my sister”.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">All Josie’s leads seem to reach dead her team traces Kayleigh’s scent to a dank, dark cabin in the woods, but the owner has an alibi and there is no evidence that Kayleigh has been inside. I kept getting confused about who was who due to the many characters who all felt identical. Undoubtedly, this would be considered a domestic thriller. The lengthy epilogue is where the reader learns what has been happening throughout the entire novel, and I admit I didn’t anticipate the ending, so I suppose that was the highlight of the book. from Book #1 make a comeback but there are no spoilers or anything.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I would say this one is a slow burn,
especially compared to the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/231428-sacramento">Sacramento Series</a>

down.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">In good Karen Rose fashion, I loved the
characters and loved that they always become a little family hub! We briefly

but I think I wasn’t in the mood for romance because I found the relationship
between Val and Kaj cringy for some reason, like it was happening too fast and
there was no development. Maybe it was just my headspace though but that’s one
of the reasons I only gave a 4-star rating for this one. Overall, if you are in
the mood for suspense and romance you will definitely love this one! Karen Rose
never disappoints, and I will forever keep reading her books!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">

"You have a new client. Bring a cupcake for him."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">Okaaaay. Holding the two cupcakes, Val walked to Burke's office door, hearing the whir of Joy's motorized wheelchair as the older woman followed her, unabashedly curious. A shiver of trepidation raced down Val's spine.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">A moment later, she knew why. Assistant District Attorney Jean-Pierre Cardozo was coming to his feet, having been seated in one of the chairs in front of Burke's desk. She'd first met him at a party back in the summer. Burke and his staff had been celebrating with some clients after closing an all-hands-on-deck case when Cardozo had arrived, dressed in an expensive black suit that made him look like a Fortune 500 CEO.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">He'd been charming as hell and impossible to ignore, despite her best efforts-that day and later. Unable to resist, she'd found herself googling him later that evening, learning surprisingly little personal information. Other than a few of the cases he'd tried up in the New York City courts, the man had no real internet presence, which took a lot of talent. Burke's IT guy, Antoine, would surely have been able to dig up a lot more, but she'd been unwilling to ask. Unwilling to voice aloud that the man had fascinated her.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">She knew only that he'd recently moved from New York and that his first name was spelled K-a-j, but pronounced Kai, rhyming with pie. And she only knew those tidbits because she'd overheard Burke telling someone else in the firm.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">After that day, she'd seen Cardozo twice. Once a couple weeks ago at another party at a friend's restaurant, Le Petit Choux. He hadn't stayed long, and she'd managed to avoid him. Their most recent crossing of paths had been in a courtroom the week before, a plea hearing for one of the criminals whose crimes Burke's group had exposed. No words had been exchanged between them either time, but Val had noticed the man's every movement.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">He moved so very nicely. And he was a good guy, prosecuting bad guys, but that smile he'd worn . . . He could get her to trust that smile. Which meant he was dangerous.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">He didn't look anything like that now. He was as handsome as before, his dark brown hair neatly combed, his face freshly shaven. His khakis were unwrinkled, the sleeves of his casual button-up shirt rolled up, exposing tanned forearms. He even wore a tie printed with whimsical dinosaurs. But his expression appeared haggard, as if he hadn't slept at all.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">And his dark eyes were full of fear.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">Val glanced to the corner of the room, revealing the source of his fear. A boy of about nine or ten sat at Burke's little meeting table. His hair was white-blond, unlike Cardozo's. But their faces were too much alike for them not to be related. Father and son, she thought.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">She hadn't realized that Cardozo had a child, and she didn't want to think about why that disappointed her. It didn't matter that the child had a mother, that Cardozo had a significant other. It didn't matter because she was not interested in ADA Cardozo, first name Kaj that rhymed with pie.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">The child, however, had captured her attention. He clutched a tablet in his hands, staring down at it with a vacant look that Val recognized all too well.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">She'd seen it in the mirror plenty of times.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">He'd been traumatized. He didn't look up, so Val turned back to his father.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"Hey," Val said quietly, because the mood in the room was brittle. "It's good to see you again, ADA Cardozo."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">The man's throat worked as he swallowed. "Likewise. This is my son, Elijah. Elijah, this is Miss Sorensen."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">My new client? Val wondered. She looked at Burke, who inclined his head toward the boy, gesturing her to engage.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"Hi, Elijah," she said, approaching the table. "I'm Val."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">The boy didn't look up until Val put the cupcake in front of him. "Hi," he whispered.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">It was one tiny word, but said with a determination that won her respect. She pointed at the cupcake. "That's yours."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"And that one, too?" Elijah asked, pointing at the cupcake still in her hand.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"Pfft. No," she said, using her best duh tone. "This one is mine. You're a greedy one, aren't you?" She smiled so that he would know she was teasing.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">The boy's lips quirked up before returning to a grim line. "Was worth a try."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"It's always worth a try when cupcakes are on the line. Are you my new client?"</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">Elijah pushed Harry Potter-style glasses up on his nose. "I guess so."</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">"May I sit down?" She waited until Elijah nodded before taking the seat beside him. From this vantage point she could see the boy's face as well as that of his father.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">Cardozo lowered himself back into his chair in front of Burke's desk, his face still frozen in a rictus of fear.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;">Whatever had happened, it had been bad.</span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><span style="background-color: white;"><i>Excerpted from Beneath Dark Waters by Karen Rose Copyright © 2023 by Karen Rose. want to kill his victims, he wants to obliterate them!</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I simply love this series and The

But as time passed, the threat faded. That is, until now.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">A sack with a decomposing body has been found tied to a tree in the forest, and a milky white bullet casing turns up at the scene. <p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">I enjoyed <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51169341-the-night-swim">The Night Swim</a>
but I really loved this one. I would have given this one a 5-star, but I couldn’t
get past the nasty social media aspect of it. I understand it was significant
to the story, but the social media world described and the action of the people
just made me annoyed.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">Having said that though, the rest of
the novel was perfection! Megan is an excellent author that brings loads of
suspense and mystery to her writing. I also love Rachel Krall’s character; she
is so fierce and never backs down. I’m so intrigued about where the series will go
next, especially after meeting a special FBI agent.</p>

<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">Don’t get me wrong, Shari Lapena is my
absolutely favorite author and I read and will continue to read all of her
books, but this just wasn’t for me.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">My main problem was all the characters
were just so unlovable, and despicable. I just couldn’t find sympathy or care
for the story. What saved this a bit for me was that this was a pretty quick
read with different POVs so it did manage to keep my attention, but I just
couldn’t get passed hating all the characters and not caring what happened to
them. Hopefully, her next one is much better, as she usually is the queen of domestic
suspense.</p>

I was eager to read Sarah Pekkanen's debut novel as soon as I found out she had written one alone.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">For the majority of the novel, the pace felt a little slow to me, but it picked up towards the end and it still kept me going. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Ruth, the mother, and Catherine, her grown daughter, swap POVs in the chapters. Ruth has some significant secrets from her past she’s trying to hide, which causes her daughter to become suspicious and begin looking into Ruth’s past and challenge her intentions. This back-and-forth continued for the majority of the book. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">The pacing was greatly aided by a few breathtaking scenes near the conclusion.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">With or without Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanan is a fantastic storyteller. found dead, with a line from R. M. Holland’s most famous story, “The Stranger,”

isn't hers, left on the page of an old diary: "Hallo, Clare. You don’t

you’d expect from Cat & Nat: funny and honest. This is a very quick and
easy read. As a mom of 3 kids, I enjoyed reading this one as it really does
show us that all moms struggle, but that all our kids want from us, is us. They
don’t want the perfect mom, or the fit mom, or the Pinterest mom. I enjoyed how
they shared the not so glamorous side of motherhood, because let’s face it,
motherhood can be a sh*t show! I only wish I had read this book when my kids
were younger, and it seemed like it would never get better. It might seem like
you are doing everything wrong some days, and it’s nice to know that other moms
are feeling the same way. Some days you will rock it, some days you will feel
like a complete failure, and that’s okay. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

Rose are twins. Will you be able to guess which one is the good sister? It seems
like they have always looked out for each other, or Rose looks out for Fern.
Rose is married and wants a baby, while Fern is happy to be a librarian. When
Fern finds out that Rose is struggling to conceive, she decides she will have a
baby for her twin sister. When Fern gets pregnant, things get interesting. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

this was a slow burn, I still enjoyed the story and wanted to know what would

they have very different characters. This is a highly engaging family drama story
that will keep you turning page after page until the very last twist.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

an emotional rollercoaster I can’t even imagine when the story goes next.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I’ve mentioned it over and over, but this
series just gets better and better! Lisa Regan consistently delivers! This
novel was immediately engrossing, as are all of her others. Her books never
have a dull moment. She keeps me turning the pages and conducting my own
investigation with the Denton PD while keeping me on the edge of my seat.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">In this novel, we learn more about Dr.
Anya Feist, which I love! I relish the story even more when the story revolves
around a main character because I love learning more about Josie’s support
system and the little family she built herself.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">As usual, the action starts right aware,
and the story is full of surprises and twists! I can’t say I loved the ending,
but it was definitely unpredictable, and I will keep reading this series until
Lisa is tired of writing them! Hopefully, that never happens.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Thank you to Bookouture for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. Her body was the kind of cold that only the dead can be…</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">A body lies beside Kettlewell Creek, the waters rushing and churning next to her broken form. When Detective Josie Quinn arrives at the scene, she finds few clues and a victim with no enemies. Nineteen-year-old Sharon Eddy was cherished by her beloved grandmother, who raised her, and her death shocks the Denton community where she worked at the local animal hospital.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">When Josie is called to the morgue to hear the results of Sharon’s autopsy, the case takes a sinister turn. She is horrified to see that a mark has been burned on to Sharon’s left hip with a cattle brand: a horseshoe shot through with an arrow. Shaken and terrified, the usually cool and collected Medical Examiner Anya Feist lifts her own top to show Josie an identical mark. Ten years ago, Anya fled her hometown after her marriage to her high school sweetheart ended in terror.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">But Josie can find nothing to connect Anya’s ex-husband Vance Hadlee to the murder. Her search of his family farm leads to more questions than answers.</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Then another body is found. A young woman in a red coat, lying in her final resting place, her hip bearing the same tell-tale horseshoe mark. As Josie gets closer to finding the truth, the killer creeps ever closer to home, threatening the lives of those Josie loves the most. Can she put together the pieces of this terrifying puzzle before it’s too late?</span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">A completely unputdownable crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Allison is so good at weaving multiple storylines together seamlessly while keeping suspense and tension in the story.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">She also has a knack for writing lovable characters! In this one, I fell in love with Beau and his grandmother, and St. Augustine (minus the bad parts) but Allison really painted the town as a quiet charming bayou town.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Another part that had me falling in love with this series is the dynamic of the crew on the Mobile Response Team. They work so well together and are starting to build a little family. I love that dynamic. Also, let’s not forget the steamy dynamic between Kara and Matt!! I can’t wait to see where that goes! </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtKnkejcTXh_-jwTquIz8l22kIz8cVjVupfXoo4Li2p05pwAIkw-Cx2ppbQYLRDtIhkneLmvEcchwF0CcRWo4LRql1DQVu5DnT8Z19klSbuSZrq-yueFNCtH9vqOdXBhHnX3Vq21q-mBzJD7pTT5eNKJmnLLQlFoodbwBMjys5A7J-1U5ccre5WhtM/s230/SEVEN%20GIRLS%20GONE%202.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><img border="0" data-original-height="230" data-original-width="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtKnkejcTXh_-jwTquIz8l22kIz8cVjVupfXoo4Li2p05pwAIkw-Cx2ppbQYLRDtIhkneLmvEcchwF0CcRWo4LRql1DQVu5DnT8Z19klSbuSZrq-yueFNCtH9vqOdXBhHnX3Vq21q-mBzJD7pTT5eNKJmnLLQlFoodbwBMjys5A7J-1U5ccre5WhtM/s16000/SEVEN%20GIRLS%20GONE%202.gif" /></span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. Police detective Beau Hebert is the only one who seems to care, but with every witness quickly silenced and a corrupt police department set on keeping the cases unsolved, Beau’s investigation stalls at every turn.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">With nobody else to trust, Beau calls in a favor from his friend on the FBI’s Mobile Response Team. While LAPD detective Kara Quinn works undercover to dig into the women’s murders and team leader Matt Costa officially investigates the in-custody death of a witness, Beau might finally have a chance at solving the case.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">But in a town where everyone knows everyone, talking gets you killed and secrets stay buried, it’s going to take the entire team working around the clock to unravel the truth. Especially when they discover that the deep-seated corruption and the deadly drug-trafficking ring at the center of it all extends far beyond the small-town borders.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/anintrovertreads/?hl=en" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">@anintrovertreads</span></a></p>Book Obsessed Introvertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00112423872980836596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2056704585943254941.post-63147318807625494972023-04-15T08:00:00.001-06:002023-04-15T08:00:00.201-06:00The Wrong Victim by Allison Brennan | Review<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JCAW8jgXnIQ_vPX8kIVT64mKRE1_tbc8_iTALj_S0YKkZfYTS--AoFgqyUkuQGhonxUQBV6bPwteRL-sO6P5FofRTnxqeXpPxh_tBvzgTlJjlg7mYgxtKKMuCkQEZek7J_w4K7PQehz8QTQzyKT7qyJGumjAZMan7Sv_jZQF8se8r98tNaT6Tkel/s3456/THE%20WRONG%20VICTIME%20-%20BRENNAN,%20ALISSON.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="3456" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6JCAW8jgXnIQ_vPX8kIVT64mKRE1_tbc8_iTALj_S0YKkZfYTS--AoFgqyUkuQGhonxUQBV6bPwteRL-sO6P5FofRTnxqeXpPxh_tBvzgTlJjlg7mYgxtKKMuCkQEZek7J_w4K7PQehz8QTQzyKT7qyJGumjAZMan7Sv_jZQF8se8r98tNaT6Tkel/s16000/THE%20WRONG%20VICTIME%20-%20BRENNAN,%20ALISSON.jpg" /></span></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/297312-quinn-costa" target="_blank">Book #3</a> | <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58377529-the-wrong-victim" target="_blank">The Wrong Victim</a> | <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/52527.Allison_Brennan" target="_blank">Allison Brennan</a> | <a href="https://www.harlequin.com/shop/brand/mira.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwoIqhBhAGEiwArXT7Kwxp4_fTr85qr7PLKKYlJ4_AI27VSLuCJuSDbkQ8IVU8ldMRKl4LoRoCqVAQAvD_BwE" target="_blank">MIRA</a> | <b>Pub</b>: April 26, 2022 | <b>Pages</b>: 453</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFeMLFWZQ9UHRMwzs_onMhIEeZy4JzFIklQXq4xzBG4ioGOlHxQ3WoapO1_25Dq17M6ufv-Wab6kNwLFTIu1AEeab3otMFCBQWz84vaHA5nfbgJImiNPtYMCd6hf0jzV9csiiGtS0l6_QUktPW6uqCP0ZIujonEGNCptlM8bCIl6jyLi6xtUmaR8vE/s258/5%20stars_New.PNG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><img border="0" data-original-height="125" data-original-width="258" height="125" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFeMLFWZQ9UHRMwzs_onMhIEeZy4JzFIklQXq4xzBG4ioGOlHxQ3WoapO1_25Dq17M6ufv-Wab6kNwLFTIu1AEeab3otMFCBQWz84vaHA5nfbgJImiNPtYMCd6hf0jzV9csiiGtS0l6_QUktPW6uqCP0ZIujonEGNCptlM8bCIl6jyLi6xtUmaR8vE/s1600/5%20stars_New.PNG" width="258" /></span></a></div><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Book #3 in the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/297312-quinn-costa">Quinn & Costa
Series</a>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Quinn & Costa are back! I jumped
right into this book after reading <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53288447-tell-no-lies?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=JjzokOEdUa&rank=1">Tell
No Lies</a>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">You can read them as standalones, but I
recommend reading them in order if possible. You might get some tiny spoilers
if you don’t.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I love that since they are a part of the
Mobile Response Team, the team can travel anywhere in the US. Therefore, each
book provides a different background. In this one, the team goes to the San
Juan Islands, near Washington, due to a bombing killing 9 people. I really loved
the setting of this story; Allison did a great job at depicting the town as a quaint
and charming little tourist town.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">As previously mentioned, I was living
for the romantic tension between Kara and Matt, we got a bit of relationship development
in <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53288447-tell-no-lies?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=JjzokOEdUa&rank=1">Tell
No Lies</a> but in this one, it gets explored further, and someone might be putting
their relationship in jeopardy… I can’t wait to keep reading this storyline!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">If you love a story that’s slightly high-paced,
suspenseful, and surprising, this series is for you! Highly recommend.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58377529-the-wrong-victim" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Synopsis</span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">A bomb explodes on a sunset charter cruise out of Friday Harbor at the height of tourist season and kills everyone on board. Now this fishing and boating community is in shock and asking who would commit such a heinous crime—the largest act of mass murder in the history of the San Juan Islands.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Forensic profilers know there are two types of domestic terrorists: those who use violence to instill fear for political purposes but stop at murder because it detracts from the cause, and those who crave attention and are willing to maim and murder for their own agenda.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Accused of putting profits before people after leaking fuel that caused a massive fish kill, the West End Charter company may itself have been the target. But as special agent Matt Costa, detective Kara Quinn and the rest of the FBI team begin their investigation, they discover that plenty of people might have wanted someone dead on that yacht. Now they must track down who is responsible and stop them before they strike again.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/anintrovertreads/?hl=en" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">@anintrovertreads</span></a></p>Book Obsessed Introvertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00112423872980836596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2056704585943254941.post-68017615654244049722023-04-14T08:00:00.001-06:002023-04-14T08:00:00.190-06:00Tell no Lie by Allison Brennan | Review<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgybWn2BPKM-AkiMfe682HxDh3AukjgCnptLWHJdKiXcNi0NjsmiMkHIX-iiYGjnn6aG0oWPsvY5SPyNxNzIUMUm16PcflACC3L2VVF7_nQePGyRvYOU2XTx5gOZiyvom7jKdcoyVRYKoerRVLxgO9BKnkve2a6Hrsvb9N9cGyTNfPmf6V5ldERy9ii/s1960/TELL%20NO%20LIES%20-%20BRENNAN,%20ALLISON.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1812" data-original-width="1960" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgybWn2BPKM-AkiMfe682HxDh3AukjgCnptLWHJdKiXcNi0NjsmiMkHIX-iiYGjnn6aG0oWPsvY5SPyNxNzIUMUm16PcflACC3L2VVF7_nQePGyRvYOU2XTx5gOZiyvom7jKdcoyVRYKoerRVLxgO9BKnkve2a6Hrsvb9N9cGyTNfPmf6V5ldERy9ii/s16000/TELL%20NO%20LIES%20-%20BRENNAN,%20ALLISON.jpg" /></span></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/297312-quinn-costa" target="_blank">Book #2</a> | <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53288447-tell-no-lies" target="_blank">Tell No Lie</a> | <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/52527.Allison_Brennan" target="_blank">Allison Brennan</a> | <a href="https://www.harlequin.com/shop/brand/mira.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwoIqhBhAGEiwArXT7Kwxp4_fTr85qr7PLKKYlJ4_AI27VSLuCJuSDbkQ8IVU8ldMRKl4LoRoCqVAQAvD_BwE" target="_blank">MIRA</a> | <b>Pub</b>: March 30, 2021 | <b>Pages</b>: 425</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLRmkSTApvoeg1EBQ-L8tEG-CdGCXrM9ZcdGpnAEQMFTzFhyHYAlXbdZ7dE6rhxJyHmJYer2u-WOhwPtcH4vpdTGHOS0KhcuaZKnv4WfBlZsmYVQaHd4A1oWgA4ZAXxUh3UiWRitvrDBAXg6SDnE6__bh545dKyoqC5JjDd8_b85ii9tRsVR9BUikM/s258/5%20stars_New.PNG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"><img border="0" data-original-height="125" data-original-width="258" height="125" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLRmkSTApvoeg1EBQ-L8tEG-CdGCXrM9ZcdGpnAEQMFTzFhyHYAlXbdZ7dE6rhxJyHmJYer2u-WOhwPtcH4vpdTGHOS0KhcuaZKnv4WfBlZsmYVQaHd4A1oWgA4ZAXxUh3UiWRitvrDBAXg6SDnE6__bh545dKyoqC5JjDd8_b85ii9tRsVR9BUikM/s1600/5%20stars_New.PNG" width="258" /></span></a></div><p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Book #2 in the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/297312-quinn-costa">Quinn & Costa
Series</a>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I read Book #1 in 2020 and was pleasantly
surprised! I sort of forgot about this series until I saw that the new book <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61159276-seven-girls-gone">Seven
Girls Gone</a> will be coming out on April 25th and knew I had to catch up with this series.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I was initially convinced I was going to
hate it since the story seemed to revolve around an activist seeking out
whether a water source was contaminated in the desert, but as the story evolved,
I couldn’t put the book down.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">There were so many storylines woven
together, and I had no clue where the story was going. This kept the suspense
up from start to finish.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">In this one, we get a bit of development
with Kara and Matt’s relationship, and I’m here for it! I adore Romantic
Suspense novels, so this was right up my alley. I can’t wait to see where it goes.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">If you love a story with many twists
and turns, this series is for you! Highly recommend.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53288447-tell-no-lies" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Synopsis</span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Something mysterious is killing the wildlife in the mountains just south of Tucson. When a college intern turned activist sets out to collect her own evidence, she, too, ends up dead. Local law enforcement is slow to get involved. I now have to read all of Mariana Zapata’s books!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">There are a couple reasons why this isn’t a 5-star for me, firstly, not enough spiciness for my taste. Don’t get me wrong, it was cute and a good story, but I would have wanted more spice! The other reason is I felt I was missing a bit of backstory.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">However, there was such great character development and I absolutely loved the relationship between Jasmine and Ivan! It was so realistic and pure.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I can't wait to start reading another Mariana Zapata novel because the writing was excellent! I can recall every scenario in the novel with such clarity and detail that I almost felt as though I were there with the characters. I loved the family dinners because they made us feel like we were dining with them and even a part of their family. I don't know, I just really, really loved it.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">If you love slow-burning romances that don’t contain a high level of spice, you will definitely live for this one! I initially picked it up because it was winning so many awards, but it had an “old-timey” vibe to it, that I usually don’t love but for some reason, it really worked in this novel.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Molly Gray was such a peculiar character! She is one of the most distinctive, enjoyable, and endearing fictional characters I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know! She definitely made me root for her.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Molly works as a maid for the Regency Grand Hotel. As Molly was cleaning Mr. Black's room, she assumed he was dozing off. However, she noticed a medication container had fallen off the bedside table, and blue pills had spilled out onto the table, the floor, and the carpet, where they had been crushed.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">When she tries to rouse Mr. Black, she discovers that he has passed away. She calls the front desk, introduces herself, and says she works in housekeeping. She asks the person to speak with Mr. Snow and inform him that Mr. Black, who is in the penthouse and in Suite 401, is deceased. Please have him dial 911 right away. Despite Molly's fear, the police believe she may be a suspect…</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">I loved the addition of Molly’s Gran, unfortunately, she passed away, but you get a glimpse of how Gran was helping Molly navigate life and social cues.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Such a fun cozy mystery! I highly recommend.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55196813-the-maid?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=X7mlAno29S&rank=5" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Synopsis</span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life's complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job. She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">But Molly's orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr. Black himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what's happening, Molly's unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle. I find her the queen of writing atmospheric stories, and you all know I love a good atmospheric thriller! </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">This mystery is set in an elegant apartment complex in Paris. However, the building has a history…</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Ben, Jess's stepbrother, is the reason she travels to Paris. Ben promised her he would be there when she arrived, but when Jess arrives, Ben isn’t there and left a note. The other locals are acting a little shady. The chapters simply fly by as they are told from a variety of POVs and are quite short (extra bonus points for short chapters!). The story got me from the very first chapter and I couldn’t stop reading. I was engrossed and delighted with the outcome. You can anticipate some plot twists and an unpredictable ending! </span></p><p style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/58468990" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Synopsis</span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Jess needs a fresh start. This was beautifully written and kept me entertained all the way through.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">The story begins when a young, affluent couple chooses to invest in a fixer-upper in an elite neighbourhood. Sam hopes to become a partner in his law practice as Alexis prepares to give birth to their second child. Despite the problems with the house and their financial burden, Sam and Alexis simply know that this is their ideal forever home. Everything seems to be going great, until their next-door neighbour is murdered on the neighbourhood trail. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">The narrative is told from different POVs, between Blair (the murderer man’s wife), and Alexis (the new neighbour). Beyond Teddy's passing, I didn't think much else happened in the first half of the novel, but I believe this was done on purpose so the author could depict the interactions between the neighbours. The speed quickens once Alexis learns a secret that would have been worth dying for. There were a few twists, one of which was pretty original. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Overall, I did enjoy reading the novel and would recommend it to anybody who enjoys a secretive, deceitful neighbourhood drama.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60655839-what-the-neighbors-saw" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Synopsis</span></a></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Desperate Housewives meets The Couple Next Door in a chilling story of murder and intrigue set in a well-to-do DC suburb.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">Sometimes the darkest acts occur in the most beautiful houses…</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">When Alexis and her husband Sam buy a neglected Cape Cod house in an exclusive DC suburb, they are ecstatic. Sam is on the cusp of making partner at his law firm, Alexis is pregnant with their second child, and their glamorous neighbors welcome the couple with open arms. Things are looking up, and Alexis believes she can finally leave her troubled past behind.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">But the neighborhood’s picture-perfect image is shattered when their neighbor Teddy – a handsome, successful father of three – is found dead on the steep banks of the Potomac River. The community is shaken, and as the police struggle to identify and apprehend the killer, tension in the neighborhood mounts and long-buried secrets start to emerge.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">In the midst of the turmoil, Alexis takes comfort in her budding friendship with Teddy’s beautiful and charismatic widow, Blair. But as the women grow closer, the neighborhood only becomes more divided. And when the unthinkable truth behind Teddy’s murder is finally uncovered, both Blair and Alexis must reexamine their friendship and decide how far they are willing to go to preserve the lives they have so carefully constructed.</span></p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/anintrovertreads/?hl=en" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Century Gothic;">@anintrovertreads</span></a></p>Book Obsessed Introvertshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00112423872980836596noreply@blogger.com0
