Only When It’s Us |  Chloe Liese |   Pub: 4/1/20 “I just know I’d rather be afraid with you than fearless with anyone else.” I love a good romance book. I truly do. So many people hate on romance and I really don’t know why. I think that people think it’s only sex but most of the romance books I have read are so much more than that. Including Only When It’s Us. Only When It’s Us ripped me open. Willa and Ryder both have challenges they need to overcome within the story. They are so similar yet so different. When I first started reading, Willa really pissed me off. She was a downright bitch. There’s no better word to describe her, sorry. Throughout the book though she starts to really develop. Did she frustrate me until basically the very end? YES, but she did grow on me. Was she stuck in a difficult situation? Also, yes. Ryder was just an amazing character. His struggle was hard. Did he make it worse by not trying? Yes. So, two extremely stubborn characters just trying to f...
His & Hers | Alice Feeney | Flatiron Books | Pub: July 28, 2020 I absolutely LOVED Alice Feeney’s Sometimes I lie, so I knew I needed to read this book! I must say, Alice did not disappoint! The book was sooooo goood! As you may have noticed, I only gave this book a 4 star, even though I really loved the story, the pace was so slow for the majority of the book. It took forever for the story to pick up and at around ¾ quarters in, that’s when I couldn’t put it down. The book is told between Anna Andrew’s POV, a reporter, and Jack Harper’s POV, a detective. You also get a glimpse of the killer’s POV. As you keep reading you feel like you already know where the story will lead you but oh how I was wrong! The ending was absolutely mind-blowing! I would say more but honestly, I’m struggling to say more without inadvertently exposing spoilers! This book was the perfect dark, twisted, psychological thriller! I highly recommend. Thank you to Flatiron Books for providing me with ...
The Poet X |  Elizabeth Acevedo |   Harper Teen | Pub: 3/6/18   “And I think about all the things we could be if we were never told our bodies were not built for them.” I am about to make a crazy claim, this is my number 1 read of the year. You’re thinking, “Michelle, it is only July, you cannot make these claims yet.” Yes, it is early in the year still, but I mean, a book would have to really be SOMETHING to beat out The Poet X. The Poet X is the second book I have read by Elizabeth Acevedo. I read With the Fire on High last year which made my top ten reads of 2019. The Poet X is about Xiomara, a high school sophomore who loves to write poetry in her journal, who is forced to believe in things she doesn’t, who is navigating love for the first time and so much more. Xiomara’s parents are strict, mostly her mom though. Her mother is very religious, and it causes a good majority of the problems that Xiomara goes through. So, Xiomara writes and writes all of her poems to get ...
Crown of Midnight |  Sarah J Maas |   Bloomsbury | Pub: 8/15/13   “You remind me of how the world ought to be. What the world can be.” Well Natalie and I finished book 2 of the Throne of Glass series and it again did not disappoint. It did start off rather slowly again but, once it picked it, it picked up. It was really great to see Celaena get into Assassin Mode in this story. She is a real bad ass. The end had me dropping my jaw but also deep down, I knew what I knew, and I was right but it doesn’t change how shocked I was when I read it. Sarah J Maas just has this way with words, and it creates all these feelings. We’re reading Assassin’s Blade next because there really is no good time to squeeze it in. Assassin’s Blade is 4 novellas in one book, and it gives some back story. Anxious to start for sure!   Synopsis (Credit:  Goodreads )   Celaena Sardothien, royal assassin, is the King of Adarlan's deadliest weapon. She must win her freedom through his enemie...
Still Here |  Amy Stuart  |  Simon & Schuster | Pub: July 7, 2020 I waited two years for this book to come out and I wasn’t disappointed! Clare and Malcolm generally work together to solve missing woman cases, but in this one, the story revolves around Malcom’s disappearance and his mysterious past! I adored both Still Mine and Still Water and I really was hoping for Clare and Malcom’s story to evolve so I’m really glad Amy put Malcom’s storyline in this book! There were definitely some twists and turns in this novel and it kept me engaged. I loved how the book was narrated by the third person. I read a lot of POVs novels so it was a refreshing take. I always rooted for Clare but in this novel you really see her evolve and the ENDING - WOW! It was a perfect ending in my book! The only reason this isn’t a 5 star read for me is that it was missing something, maybe it was missing some action in the middle of the story I can’t pinpoint exactly what ...
Goodnight Stranger | Miciah Bay Gault | Park Row Books | Pub: July 30, 2019 I would characterize this book as general fiction, and honestly, I’m not much of a general fiction kind of girl. I really adore mysteries and thrillers and rarely venture into other genres. It was sort of a mix between psychological thriller, a science fiction novel, and romance. I guess I could say it was original since I’ve never read anything quite like this book. Overall, I just didn’t enjoy this book as much as I would have liked to. I took me a while to read it as well since I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe if you are a fan of general fiction you would enjoy this story, however, this just wasn’t the book for me. Thank you to Park Row Books for providing me with an ARC of this book. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions. Synopsis Lydia and Lucas Moore are in their late twenties when a stranger enters their small world on Wolf Island. Lydia, the responsible sister, has...
