The Guest | B.A. Paris | St. Martin's Press | Pub : February 20, 2024 | Pages : 320 I’m so sad to say this was my least favorite B.A. Paris book. I’m a hugeee B.A. Paris fan and I read/will keep reading everything she puts out, but this one was just not for me. I found the plot to be intriguing, yet I kept wanting more. I kept getting confused about who was who due to the many characters who all felt identical. Undoubtedly, this would be considered a domestic thriller. The lengthy epilogue is where the reader learns what has been happening throughout the entire novel, and I admit I didn’t anticipate the ending, so I suppose that was the highlight of the book. Overall, it’s an okay book, but not as good as I'd hoped for from this author. If you want an easy slow-burn read with short chapters, you might enjoy this one. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions...
Harper Adams #1 | Little Girl Vanish | Denise Grover Swank | DGS | Pub : June 20, 2023 | Pages : 385 I absolutely devoured and adored the Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank so I had to read this new Harper Adams series without a doubt! I had heard it would feature Skeeter Malcolm and I was excited, but it actually took me a while to figure out James Malcolm was Skeeter. I was pretty happy though to learn more about James Malcom (a.k.a Skeeter), and I really loved Harper Adams as well, so I’m very interested in reading the rest of the series. I can see loads of character development for Harper as she was/is currently an unstable character, but you can’t help rooting for her. Pair that with the (perhaps) romantic tension with James and you hit a home run in my book! It wasn’t a mind-blowing mystery or anything, but it was well-written, with great characters and a great premise! I’m looking forward to Book #2! Thank you to BooksGoSocial for providing me with an electronic A...
Beneath Dark Waters | Karen Rose | Berkley | Pub : August 15, 2023 | Pages : 592 Trigger Warning: PTSD, Child Abuse, Torture, Rape Book #2 in the New Orleans Series . However, this book can be read as a standalone. Some of the characters from Book #1 make a comeback but there are no spoilers or anything. I would say this one is a slow burn, especially compared to the Sacramento Series (which I adore!) but it does pick up near the end and I couldn’t put the book down. In good Karen Rose fashion, I loved the characters and loved that they always become a little family hub! We briefly heard about Val in Book #1 but it was nice to learn more about Val’s past and she’s such a badass, empowering character, I would read lots more books with her as the main character for sure! I did really enjoy the story as a whole, but I think I wasn’t in the mood for romance because I found the relationship between Val and Kaj cringy for some reason, like it was happening too fast and there was no de...
Joona Linna #9 | The Spider | Lars Kepler | McClelland & Stewart | Pub : July 25, 2023 | Pages : 496 Book #9 in the Joona Lina series ! This series is one of my all-time favorites! It’s almost taking over the Harry Hole Series by Jo Nesbo! I Love Saga’s character development throughout this series! I’m really rooting for her! In short, this book begins with a gruesome murder and a message from the killer that there are 9 further white bullets intended for another 9 victims connected to Saga and she must solve the clues to save the victims and ultimately Joona…and this killer doesn’t just want to kill his victims, he wants to obliterate them! I simply love this series and The Spider is yet another taut, twisty thriller that hurtles along at a breakneck speed with nasty surprises around every corner. It’s a great read which leaves you craving for the next installment. Highly recommended! I wish I could read/speak Swedish so I can read the next installment ASAP! ...
