Blind Vigil | Matt Coyle | Oceanview Publishing | Pub : December 1, 2020 | Pages : 336 Book 7 in the Rick Cahill series ! So far, I’ve only read Book 5 and Book 7, but I need to start back at Book 1! This series is excellent! I feel like Matt Coyle is underrated; he should get more recognition because this is a superb series! I think you can read them as stand-alones for sure. I would probably be more invested and get more of the story if I have read this series from the start, but I still really enjoy the series, and there aren’t many spoilers in the books. Of course, I’ve grown to love Risk Cahill and I’m invested in his life, but I also loved the other secondary characters. These books always keep me guessing and on the edge of my seat, plus it’s a quick and easy read! The only thing I didn’t like was the ending, I feel like it was very rushed. Having said that though, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! Last Redemption is going to be out November 30, ...
The Night Swim | Melanie Goldin | St. Martin's Press | Pub : August 4, 2020 | Pages : 344 How many times can I say atmospheric in my reviews?! But honestly, books that are atmospheric just get me! I enjoy them so much more, and this one is no different. I loved the short chapters! It always makes me read more in a short period of time since it’s easier to just be like “one more chapter”. In addition to short chapters, we get two different POVs! Which makes the story more suspenseful, in my opinion! I really loved the podcasts part of the book, it made me even more curious and not want to put the book down! I don’t want to get too much into details because there are twists and turns along the way; I don’t want to spoil anything! Especially the ending! Having read both The Night Swim and The Escape Room , I’m a Megan Goldin fan! Both books were great! Highly recommend her books! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book v...
The Folk of the Air Series | Holly Black | Little, Brown and Company “I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear.” Well, I read all 3 The Folk of the Air books in 12 days. There are two novellas which I am hoping to get my hands on but for now, let us chat about these 3 books. In the first book Cardan is a bully and Jude is tricked by him and his friends, bully romance if you will. But Jude has her own tricks up her sleeves. Honestly, the scheming in the books is quite possibly my favorite parts. In the second book, stuff takes another turn. Jude isn’t the only one playing tricks. While she is the one making a lot of the choices in the game, she isn’t the only one playing. In the third book, we have even more deceit, but we have so much more love too. And I cried, oh I cried. Things got so bleak! Then the end was amazing, and I loved it and I need Holly Black to write another fantasy series similar to this, but I will re...
A Madness of Sunshine | Nalini Singh | Berkley Books | Pub : December 3, 2019 | Pages : 344 I procrastinated reading this book for so long and I regret it so much! This book was so unexpectedly good. I don’t know why I thought I would hate this book but “au contraire”, it’s one of my favorites and I truly hoped it would become a series, but unfortunately, it’s a stand alone. I will read all of Nalini’s books thought, I’m a fan for life now! The setting of this book takes place in New Zealand, which I thought was super awesome! For some reason, I end up reading books that are set in the U.S or the U.K so this was a really nice change. Being that the small town pictured in the novel is on the New Zealand coast, Nalini was able to include so much atmosphere. Just her description in the summary “West Coast of the South Island, populated by all the remembered faces and set against a backdrop of lush greenery, jagged cliffs, and crashing waves.” Brilliant!! Loved that so much. Plus, ...
House of Ashes | Loretta Marion | Crooked Lane Books | Pub : November 13, 2018 | Pages : 336 I’m soo glad I picked this up! I was procrastinating for a year before reading it, and I was pleasantly surprised. Yet again! I thought this was going to be an eerie story about ghosts, but it was more than that! It was a mystery, mixed with ghosts’ stories, and cryptic messages set in Cape Cod, in an old house by the sea! In addition to the fabulous setting, Loretta’s writing is excellent! This book was extremely well written. I really like the characters and their dynamic. I’m invested in Cassandra’s story now and I want to know more about her sister’s past. Why won’t she come back home?! The ending was so good! Nothing ended up as I was expecting it, but it was just a perfect ending. There are still some unanswered questions, but that most likely will be for Book #2, which I’m looking very forward to reading! Thank you to Crooked Lane Books for providing me with a physical ARC of...
Her Darks Lie | J.T. Ellison | MIRA | Pub : March 9, 2021 | Pages : 416 I don’t understand how this book has only a 3.5 star on Goodreads! I absolutely devoured this book! All the books I’ve read by J.T. Ellison have been 5-stars and this one is no expection! This was soo good! Premise : Rich family, Italian cost, private island, violent storm, wedding?! Yessss please One thing I adored about this book was that it was very atmospheric! J.T. Ellison does an amazing job as describing the surrounding! I could feel myself be on this island, in the dark, in the rain. I just adored the setting and atmosphere. The book was told in different POVs, which I always like. However, there were lots of different characters and the chapters were titled by Chapter number, so it was a bit confusion to figure out who’s perspective I was reading, but this wasn’t a make-or-break issue for me. If you want an action-packed, atmospheric, suspenseful, and mysterious read; this one is for you! T...
The Escape Room | Melanie Goldin | St. Martin's Press | Pub : July 30, 2019 | Pages : 357 What a book!! This grabbed me from the very first Chapter! Someone described this book as Saw in an elevator; and I agree, granted a less gory version of Saw. This book was full of surprises and twists I did not expect or see coming! It was very well written, creative and entertaining. This book is told in different POVs, which makes it even better and ups the surprise factor! This isn’t quite a 5-stars for me personally, just because as much as this was suspenseful and gripping, I ended up really disliking the four colleagues stuck in the elevator and didn’t care for their backstory, that part was a bit slow-paced, and then out of nowhere, it took a major positive turn! Great story, great premise, and great ending! Highly recommend this book and Melanie Goldin has gained a fan! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalle...
Survive the Night | Riley Sager | Dutton | Pub: 6/29/21 “Meeting people is easy. Keeping them around is the hard part.” Survive the Night is the newest Riley Sager book and I really enjoyed it. Riley’s book Final Girls was the first book of his that I read and also one of my first thrillers. So, one could say I am a fan, especially since I need to read his books the minute they come out. In Survive the Night we follow Charlie. Charlie is a college student trying to get off campus and back home to Ohio. She’s had a rough couple of months after her best friend was murdered by the Campus Killer. As she is posting her ad to find someone to give her a ride, she meets Josh, and he is also going to Ohio. He offers to drive her the very next night. Charlie’s boyfriend wants her to wait until the weekend so he can drive her, but she just wants out. She gets into the car with the stranger, Josh, and then things just get weird, and Charlie knows she isn’t getting home. Will she survi...
Breathe Your Last | Lisa Regan | Bookouture | Pub: December 9, 2020 | Pages : 350 This is Book 10 of the JosieQuinn series . If you haven’t read the prior books, I highly recommend starting at Book 1. You will not regret it. The book starts with Josie finding an experienced champion swimmer that drowned. How could that even be possible?! Afterward, a series of weird things start happening in the city of Denton. But not to worry; Josie is on the case! This book had a very creative and interesting premise! I did not expect how this story turned out. As usual, it was a brilliant, unputdownable story. I used to adore police procedurals, and after reading so many of them, I started disliking them. Too often they are slow-burning and predictable, but not this one! This police procedural series is always high-paced, adrenaline-pumping, and emotional! I say this for every book of this series, but this might be my favorite of them all! The best part of it all was the relationship development;...
Save Her Soul | Lisa Regan | Bookouture | Pub: August 12, 2020 | Pages : 284 This is Book 9 of the Josie Quinn Series . If you haven’t read the prior books, I highly recommend starting at Book 1. You will not regret it. As soon as I got my hands on this; I had to stop everything! I always say to myself “I’ll just read a little bit at a time” – NOPE, can’t do it. Not with a Lisa Regan book! I’m sure you all know by now that Lisa Regan is one of my favorite authors and this series is always the series I recommend to people! It’s just that good. This book digs a bit more into Ray’s past, Josie’s ex-husband. Which leads Josie to confront her past, yet again. However, this time around, as much as Josie is a straight-up badass, this time it almost breaks her. There were SO many emotions in this book, that I can’t put into words. I really love the progression of this series and the love Josie has for her family and friends! Also, let’s not forget about Noah! I’m so investe...
The Perfect Girlfriend | Karen Hamilton | Graydon House | Pub : December 31, 2018 | Pages : 352 This was a decent book! It’s about a girl that is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend and will do anything to get him back. Therefore, this is definitely a Psychological Thriller. I usually get annoyed at obsessive characters, but I didn’t get annoyed at this one! Juliette is defiantly unhinged, but I kept wanting more as I was curious as to what plan she would draw up next! It’s a slow-burning book, but honestly, I was still very entertained and never had the feeling of “will this book ever end” which I tend to have with slow-burning thrillers/mysteries. One thing I do wish I had more in the story is more steamy romance. Right as it got to the good parts, I felt like it was cut extremely short. I’m a sucker for thrillers mixed with romance so I definitely would have enjoyed this book more with those scenes but maybe it was made for a younger demographic? Who knows... The ending was ...
Say Goodbye | Karen Rose | Berkley | Pub: August 3, 2021 | Pages: 640 I love the Sacramento series so much, I hope there’s more coming!! Ickkk You could read this book as a stand alone, but I promise it’s worth the massive number of pages to read Say You’re Sorry and Say No More prior to this one. I started being obsessed with this series because of Daisy and Gideon but I noticed each book has a different relationship focus and I wasn’t mad that we didn’t get lots of Daisy and Gideon action. The relationship part of this books was more focused on FBI Special Agent Tom Hunter and his best friend, best friend, ex-Army combat medic Liza Barkley. This storyline kept me going! Although, if you are looking for steamy romantic suspense, this one isn’t it. There was less “steam” than usual, but trust me, it was still SO GOOD! Another amazing thing about this book is we finally got an “ending” with Eden, the cult that Gideon and Mercy are from. I’m heavily invested in the charact...
The House Guests | Emilie Richards | Harper Collins | Pub : June 29, 2021| Pages : 544 This was a good story, but it was a very slow-paced story. Even when the action hit, it was sort of glazed over, which was fine since I did enjoy the story and character development. However, I honestly would categorize this book as general fiction rather than mystery and thriller. The story is told by different POVs, which I really enjoyed! That’s where all the character development unfolds and where I find the author thrived in this book. We got to know what both woman’s secrets were in the end, but I truly was more invested in the relationship and dynamic between characters at that point. Overall, it was a well-written, easy, enjoyable read! Thank you to MIRA for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions. Synopsis Two women. Two families. Two lifetimes' worth of secrets. Teenage Savannah's father passed aw...
