The Last Resort by Marissa Stapley | Review

The Last Resort can be your last option for saving your marriage. That is if you believe what power couple Drs. Miles and Grace Markell appear to be.

In this book, some couples come to this lush retreat hoping to get back together, some merely tag along, and some have secrets to keep. A perfect mix of visitors makes for engaging group therapy sessions and the implementation of new treatment modalities.

Most people don't anticipate that if required, they could have to live apart from their spouses in different cottages.

Leave your phones, medications, and problems at home. Sign on the dotted line to begin the treatment plan that has been specifically designed for you. The doctors are competent, or perhaps I should say that one of them has ulterior reasons.

This book is interestingly twisted and horrible, and it makes you feel uneasy. Viewers who are sensitive to verbal or physical abuse should be aware that the main character's therapy sessions and other story points reference this issue.

I read this as an Audiobook, and I was pleasantly surprised. I believe this was free at the time on Audible so jumped on the opportunity to read it. I would consider this a medium-paced thriller, it definitely kept me entrained and engaged. Expect some small twists and turns.

My only small complaint was that the story was a tad predictable. Overall great summer read!

The Harmony Resort promises hope for struggling marriages. Run by celebrity power couple Drs. Miles and Grace Markell, the "last resort" offers a chance for partners to repair their relationships in a luxurious setting on the gorgeous Mayan Riviera.

Johanna and Ben have a marriage that looks perfect on the surface, but in reality, they don’t know each other at all. Shell and Colin fight constantly: after all, Colin is a workaholic, and Shell always comes second to his job as an executive at a powerful mining company. But what has really torn them apart is too devastating to talk about. When both couples begin Harmony's intensive therapy program, it becomes clear that Harmony is not all it seems—and neither are Miles and Grace themselves. What are they hiding, and what price will these couples pay for finding out?

As a deadly tropical storm descends on the coast, trapping the hosts and the guests on the resort, secrets are revealed, loyalties are tested and not one single person—or their marriage—will remain unchanged by what follows.
