Her One mistake by Heidi Perks is a compelling thriller that covers every parents worst nightmare: a child gone in the blink of an eye. The reader can't help but wonder about Charlotte's real involvement in the child's disappearance but then you start asking yourself questions about another character's weird behaviour. And then there's the mother, Harriet, who your heart can't help but to break as she becomes overly emotional following her daughter's disappearance. Although the author left hints about what happened, there were plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the end. This is definitely a book that kept me on the edge of my seat. It didn't leave one moment for the reader to get bored. I couldn't put it down. The story alternates between the two main characters, Charlotte and Harriet, and goes back and forth before and after Alice's disappearance. It also includes some of Harriet's diary entries. This was a...
The Bone Keeper was my first read by Luca Veste but after seeing it everywhere on Instagram, I was excited to get an ARC from the Publisher via NetGalley. It seemed like a promising thriller about a serial killer trying to bring to life an urban legend of the Boogeyman. Unfortunately, I thought the story fell flat. The constant flipping between the storylines ended up being confusing at times. I usually love when a thriller goes back and forth in time to give the reader a little bit more information as the story goes on but with this one, it got confusing for some reason.  Although I thought the book lacked in depth with the characters, it did give me the heebie-jeebies with the urban legend that plays on people's fears as well as the creepy children's rhymes. Think of The Bone Keeper as a cross between the boogeyman and the worst kind of killer.  It was still an enjoyable read and I would still recommend it to readers who love a good scary and creepy story.  T...

I've had this book on my shelf since it was published and somewhat always pushed it down my TBR list until a fellow Bookstagrammer ( @mama_needs_to_read ) suggested hosting a group read together. Seemed like the perfect time to read it! To be honest, I'm glad I read Beartown for a group read because I don't think I would have finished it if I read it alone. I personally thought the first 100 or so pages were dreadful. So many characters being introduced and so little action happening. The book did a complete 180 as soon as the semi-final hockey game started. I had planned to read only a few chapters everyday but I could not put it down from this point on.  Books like this is the reason I love reading! The story was intense and moving and I could feel the character's emotions as well as the intense hockey mentality in this small town. H aving grown up in a small isolated hockey town in Northern Ontario, I could relate to some of the characters. Hockey is a v...
In Full Curl, the story follows the necessary steps to bring all the loose ends of animal protection together and get all the details in proper alignments so that the perpetrators can be arrested. In her quest to stop the senseless killings of trophy animals in the National Parks, Jenny Willson must face secrets, terror and murder in both Canadian and US Rockies. The investigation moves at a realistic pace, taking almost a year for the case to fully come together. There are three main characters in the book but my favorite was definitely Jenny. She is a strong female lead. She's a Warden is Canada's National Parks and her strength really comes from her beliefs in what is right and what is wrong, as well as her love for the Parks.  The story was fast-paced and interesting. Although the reader knows who is behinds the crimes from early on, their true involvements are only revealed as the story goes on. The suspense in this book comes from when or if the culprits will...
