The Safe Place | Anna Downes | St. Martin's Press | Pub : July 14, 2020 | Pages : 352 What a premise! A successful and charismatic CEO offers Emily a summer job as a housekeeper on his remote, beautiful French estate. Enchanted by his lovely wife Nina, and his eccentric young daughter, Aurelia, Emily falls headlong into this oasis of wine-soaked days by the pool. But soon Emily realizes that Scott and Nina are hiding dangerous secrets, and if she doesn't play along, the consequences could be deadly. This book definitely counts as a Psychological Thriller and kept me engaged all throughout the story! Additionally, the location, scenery and atmosphere of the book setting was just magical! I felt like I was in the story vacationing in the south of France. The story is kind of predictable but still very entertaining and I absolutely loved the ending. Great summer read in my opinion! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book v...
Her Secret Son | Hannah Mary McKinnon | Mira Books | Pub : May 28, 2019 | Pages : 378 I really love Hannah Mary McKinnon’s books, but this one was my least favorite of hers. I still really like the story, but I didn’t have the usual emotional reaction to this story that I generally have to her books. I thought that it was slow-moving in the beginning, it took me until about 60% in for the action to start and afterwards it felt like the ending was rushed. Having said all of this, I still love Hannah Mary McKinnon’s writing and the second part of the book was really intriguing as I wasn’t sure where the story was going anymore, which is always a good sign! There were some twists and turns, as would be expected, and I really appreciated that! Overall, good story from an exceptional author! Every Hannah Mary McKinnon book must be read. Thank you to HARLEQUIN – MIRA for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased...
Bitterroot Lake | Alicia Beckman | Crooked Lane Books | Pub : April 13, 2021 | Pages : 336 I listened to Bitterroot Lake and I must confess, this wasn’t my favorite book. The story was too slow-moving for my liking, and I was questioning what the point of the story was until close to the end. There were lots of characters in this book, but I managed to keep them straight, for once, in my head. My only issue is that there wasn’t lots of character development. We heard lots about Sarah’s story, but I felt it was just being repeated over and over throughout the story but not particularly evolving throughout. There was a spooky aspect to the story as Sarah kept hearing and seeing different weird things at Whitetail Lodge but turns out it was just for effect and this novel isn’t a paranormal novel. Which is fine by me, I usually don’t tend to like those. Having said that, I still enjoyed the story, and the ending. It’s just not my usual preference and even though we didn’t get a ...
Those People | Louise Candlish | Berkley Publishing Group | Pub : June 11, 2019 | Pages : 368 I did enjoy Our House but I’m sad to say I didn’t particularly like this book. This was a very slow read, and too slow for my liking. There are some unexpected plot twists, but nothing mind-blowing. Honestly, I just dislike most characters, especially the Booths, so much that I had a hard time being invested in the story. The story was told by multiple POVs, which I enjoyed more since I could see the different perspectives on what was going on the street, and what certain characters were thinking, or hiding. If you like slower-paced books and books about suburbia and what lengths people will go to, I recommend this novel. If not, I suggest skipping this one. Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions. Synopsis Lowland Way is the suburban dream. The houses are b...
The Holiday | T.M. Logan | St. Martin's Press | Pub : July 25, 2019 | Pages : 380 After reading 29 seconds , I became an avid fan of T.M Logan. His books are excellent! This book, I could not put down! I actually finished it on the same day! It doesn’t have great reviews on Goodreads (Average: 3.91) but don’t let that put you off! The premise of the story is that a group of families go together to vacation in a luxurious villa in the south of France. However, one of the women in the group suspects her husband is cheating with one of the women on the trip. She wants to uncover the truth, but someone in the villa wants to hide their secret and is willing to kill. The setting, the characters, the twist and turns, the action-packed story, the amazing ending! I couldn’t ask for anything better. This would be an amazing summer read! I also highly recommend 29 Seconds and Lies from T.M. Logan! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this ...
The Therapist | B.A. Paris | St. Martin's Press | Pub : July 13, 2021 | Pages : 304 B.A. Paris does it again! Preface : I might be biased since B.A. Paris is one of my favorite authors and I’ve seen many mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I absolutely loved this book! I was so excited since her last book was released in 2019 (The Dilemma), that is way too long of a wait for a fan! Let me tell you, she has not lost her touch with Thrillers! This story kept me guessing until the very end! Plus, the story unfolded with an action-packed bang and I couldn’t have been happier. I felt this story to be quite creative, never read anything like it. There were multiple characters but, again, I felt so invested in the characters and the story that I felt like I was right there with Alice discovering who my neighbors are. Overall, great writing, great thriller! Highly recommend anything from B.A. Paris! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of thi...
Hairpin Bridge | Taylor Adams | William Morrow | Pub : June 15, 2021 | Pages : 320 Taylor Adams is the author of one of my favorite books, No Exit . So I definitely had very high expectations and he did not disappoint!! What a wild ride this book was!! Let’s just say the action never stopped in this book and I was there for it! I initially thought that this was going to be predictable since Lena was going to confront the man that allegedly discovered her sister’s body after committing suicide. But there are so many twists and turns that I was pleasantly surprised by the development of the story. The only reason this isn’t a 5-star review is because I was missing something. I can’t put my finger on it but I didn’t really like any of the characters. Even Lena, the main character, there was something about her that I wasn’t really sympathetic towards. I did love however how the story was written. It went back and forth between the characters POV and Lena’s blog and Lena trying to...
The Swap | Robyn Harding | Simon & Schuster | Pub : June 23, 2020 | Pages : 334 I’ve heard great things about Robyn Harding but had never picked up any of her books, until this one! My friend read The Arrangement and told me it was a very easy read and this one follows that principle. It’s a very quick and easy read, perfect for a rainy day or day at the beach! This story was definitely mysterious and included many secrets and surprises throughout, it captured my attention from page 1. However, the reason why this isn’t a five-star is because I despised every character! Robyn did a great job of picturing the characters as completely despicable that my hatred increased exponentially as the story progressed! Plus, I really get annoyed by characters that have an obsession with other characters, and that this obsession grows as the story progresses. Maybe I don’t understand how someone could be that obsessed with something, but I get really annoyed at that narrative in sto...
