Book #2 | Megan Goldin | Dark Corners | St. Martin's Press | Pub : August 8, 2023 | Pages : 352 Book #2 in the Rachel Krall Series . I enjoyed The Night Swim but I really loved this one. I would have given this one a 5-star, but I couldn’t get past the nasty social media aspect of it. I understand it was significant to the story, but the social media world described and the action of the people just made me annoyed. Having said that though, the rest of the novel was perfection! Megan is an excellent author that brings loads of suspense and mystery to her writing. I also love Rachel Krall’s character; she is so fierce and never backs down. I’m so intrigued about where the series will go next, especially after meeting a special FBI agent. If you want an interesting, twisty, unputdownable psychological thriller, you won’t regret picking this one up! Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews...
Harry Hole #13 | Killing Moon | Jo Nesbo | Knopf | Pub : May 30, 2023 | Pages : 464 Book #13 in the Harry Hole Series ! I can’t believe I’ve read all the books from this series, and I still can’t get enough! I can always rely on Jo Nesbo to provide a suspenseful, dark, and twisty murder mystery. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was so wrong. The suspense and twists and turns do not end until the very end of the novel! You just can’t stop reading. In Killing Moon, Harry seemed to be quirkier than usual, and I was loving every minute of it! You could read this as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting from Book #1, you won’t regret that decision, in my opinion. I already can’t wait for the next one! If you want a gripping, unpredictable mystery that includes multiple POVs, run to your nearest bookstore and get this one! You won’t regret it. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my ...
Zero Days | Ruth Ware | Gallery/Scout Press | Pub : June 20, 2023 | Pages : 368 This book definitely started on the right foot, however, soon after it took a bit of a nosedive for me. The story kept me interested but the plot dragged, and it took so long before the action kicked in. I’m a big Ruth Ware fan but so far, no other books have been able to compete with The Woman in Cabin 10 and One by One. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed this novel, and I can still count on Ruth Ware for atmospheric, binge-worth thrillers, but this one fell a bit short for me. With Jack being a fugitive, the whole book really was getting repetitive, and I just wanted something to happen. Hence, my 4-start rating. Otherwise, I loved the cyber security and hacking aspect of this book. I’m a big sucker for heist novels and this one kind of resembled that genre. Ruth’s writing was impeccable as usual and she did a wonderful job at developing compelling characters and gripping narratives. Thank you to S...
Shari Lapena | Everyone Here is Lying | Doubleday Canada | Pub : July 25, 2023 | Pages : 336 I’m so sad to tell you this was my worst Shari Lapena book. Don’t get me wrong, Shari Lapena is my absolutely favorite author and I read and will continue to read all of her books, but this just wasn’t for me. My main problem was all the characters were just so unlovable, and despicable. I just couldn’t find sympathy or care for the story. What saved this a bit for me was that this was a pretty quick read with different POVs so it did manage to keep my attention, but I just couldn’t get passed hating all the characters and not caring what happened to them. Hopefully, her next one is much better, as she usually is the queen of domestic suspense. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada for providing me with an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley. As usual, my reviews are my honest and unbiased opinions. Synopsis Welcome to Stanhope! A safe neighborhood. A p...
Sarah Pekkanen | Gone Tonight | St. Martin's Press | Pub : August 1, 2023 | Pages : 352 Since the publication of their debut book The Wife Between Us in 2018, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have been among my favorite authors. I was eager to read Sarah Pekkanen's debut novel as soon as I found out she had written one alone. For the majority of the novel, the pace felt a little slow to me, but it picked up towards the end and it still kept me going. Ruth, the mother, and Catherine, her grown daughter, swap POVs in the chapters. Ruth has some significant secrets from her past she’s trying to hide, which causes her daughter to become suspicious and begin looking into Ruth’s past and challenge her intentions. This back-and-forth continued for the majority of the book. The pacing was greatly aided by a few breathtaking scenes near the conclusion. With or without Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanan is a fantastic storyteller. I notice that many thriller readers share my enth...
Shanora Williams | The Other Mistress | Dafina | Pub : June 27, 2023 | Pages : 320 TW: Child abuse and Sexual abuse There are a lot of mixed reviews for this one, but I personally really enjoyed this book! It’s a great quick, fun, heart-pounding, and jaw-dropping psychological thriller. This book really was captivating and intriguing from the start, couple that with short chapters and different POVs, and you have a winning combination! I was able to fly through this book. I’ve never read a Shanora Williams book, but I understand now how people mentioned that this author takes psychological thrillers to the next level and how they are never disappointed. I found the author did an excellent job of building suspense in every chapter. This novel takes you on a roller coaster ride that leaves you incredibly curious about what will happen next while also making you feel nervous and perplexed. Once you start reading this book, you might not be able to put this book down. I wholeheartedl...
