The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine Review

I received a copy of The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine from Harper Collins Canada. It's one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it sure did not disappoint! The story was fast paced and action packed. It left no time for me to get bored. It was also full of suspense and great twists and turns at the end. Some I saw coming and others I did not.

My attention was grabbed from the very first page. The reader is greeted with a heart pounding scene, giving us the feeling that something sinister will happen later in the book. What also caught my attention early on was the fact that characters all seemed to have reasonable motive for Lily's murder, which makes it challenging for the reader to pinpoint who might be responsible.

The book is divided in two POVs: Kate, the victim's daughter, and Blaire, Kate's best friend. As the story goes on, the reader starts to understand that someone is cruelly toying with Kate and might not rest until she is dead. It even sounds like the person responsible has access to Kate's home, even though there are multiple guards securing the premises. Blaire, who had been estranged from Kate for a while, came back home after her best friend's mother's death and decides to stay in town when things gets messier and crazier to support Kate and try to lead an investigation of her own. Is the villain messing with Kate the same person as her mother's killer?

Liv Constantine succeeded in creating a gripping story that keeps the reader engaged and invested until the very last page. The story dealt with mental health, paranoia, motherhood and friendship, as complicated as it can be. I loved the final twists! The moment when the reader is given all the missing pieces to the puzzle and realize who it was all along.

If you love a good and different psychological thriller, this one is for you! I definitely recommend!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Here's a quick synopsis:
Dr. Kate English has it all. Not only is she the heiress to a large fortune; she has a gorgeous husband and daughter, a high-flying career, and a beautiful home anyone would envy.

But all that changes the night Kate’s mother, Lily, is found dead, brutally murdered in her own home. Heartbroken and distraught, Kate reaches out to her estranged best friend, Blaire Barrington, who rushes to her side for the funeral, where the years of distance between them are forgotten in a moment.
That evening, Kate’s grief turns to horror when she receives an anonymous text: You think you’re sad now, just wait. By the time I’m finished with you, you’ll wish you had been buried today. More than ever, Kate needs her old friend’s help.
Once Blaire decides to take the investigation into her own hands, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems in Baltimore high society. As infidelity, lies, and betrayals come to light, and tensions rise to a boiling point, she begins to alienate Kate’s friends and relatives with her relentless, accusatory questions, as she tries to find Lily’s killer. The murderer could be anyone—friend, neighbor, loved one. But whoever it is, it’s clear that Kate is next on their list. . . (Reference : Goodreads)
